Project Overview
This project marked the second phase of silicone rendering on a residential property in Westerham. We had previously completed the top half of the house during the first-floor construction, while scaffolding was in place. After the build was completed, we returned to carry out the rendering on the lower half of the property and the rear extension, ensuring a seamless and cohesive finish across the entire façade.
Addressing the Render Joint
As the render was applied in two separate stages, it was essential to hide the join line between the top and bottom sections. To achieve this, we created a feature band using cut strips of Jackoboard—a lightweight, cement-faced board ideal for external detailing. These strips were fixed just below the original stopping point of the top render to form a crisp, consistent transition between the two stages.
Application Process
Once the Jackoboard feature was in place, we:
- Fixed appropriate beads to frame the feature strip
- Applied the silicone render base coats and mesh reinforcement to both the Jackoboard and lower wall areas
- Finished with a 1.5mm silicone topcoat to match the existing render, ensuring the entire surface appeared uniform and professionally detailed
Finished Look & Client Satisfaction
The feature band not only concealed the joint between the render stages but also introduced a visually appealing break in the large wall surfaces—adding character and depth to the exterior. The result was a flawless, durable finish that tied both phases of the project together. The clients were extremely happy with the final look and the thoughtful approach to solving the render joint issue.
