Project Overview
This project involved a full external refresh of a 3-bedroom residential property and outbuilding in Croydon. The clients wanted to modernise the look of their home and selected a smooth silicone render finish to replace the original pebble dash. Alongside the rendering, we were also contracted to replace external doors, facia and soffit boards, and all guttering and downpipes on both the house and the outbuilding.
Silicone Render System
Silicone render is a flexible, breathable, and low-maintenance solution that we regularly recommend to clients seeking a clean, modern appearance. In this case, we assessed the condition of the existing pebble dash and determined it was sound enough to render over—providing a cost-effective solution without compromising quality.
We began by thoroughly preparing the surfaces and applying render grit to ensure a strong mechanical key. We then followed our five-stage silicone render process, which delivers a durable and visually striking finish in the client’s chosen colour.
Joinery & Structural Prep Work
In addition to rendering, we undertook various external carpentry tasks, including:
- Removing and replacing old doors and frames on the outbuilding
- Rebuilding timber frames from scratch to accommodate new doors
- Fixing plywood backing to rafters to reinforce the structure before installing new fascia and soffit boards
This ensured all installations were secure and long-lasting, particularly important given the UK’s variable weather conditions.
Fascia, Soffit & Rainwater System Upgrade
We removed the old, worn facia, soffits, guttering, and downpipes and replaced them with modern, durable components. This part of the project not only improves the property’s appearance but also its performance in directing rainwater and protecting the roofline. All work was carried out with precision and care to ensure long-term durability and minimal maintenance for the homeowners.
